Dr. Julia Valente

Julia’s journey has been an arduous one. Although she experienced petit-mal and absence seizures since she was 13, it wasn’t until a grand mal seizure at age 19 that Julia was finally diagnosed with epilepsy. At the same time they found a brain tumor, and Julia underwent brain surgery and is now seizure-free. 

Julia’s personal experiences demonstrated to her the lack of general awareness of epilepsy. With awareness, she may have been diagnosed and treated much earlier. That’s one of the reasons Gab’s next challenge is so important – to raise awareness of epilepsy, and raise funds to do even more.
