About EFMN

The Epilepsy Foundation of Minnesota was founded in 1954 by a group of dedicated doctors and social workers to address concerns about challenges facing people with seizures.  Today, EFMN offers services across Minnesota and eastern North Dakota to those facing the challenges of epilepsy. EFMN also serves the broader community by fostering a better understanding of epilepsy, promoting basic seizure training, and raising awareness of how common it is to experience a seizure. An estimated 60,000 people in our region have epilepsy and our vision is that each of them will reach their full potential.

About Epilepsy

One in 10 people will have a seizure in their lifetime and 1 in 26 will develop epilepsy; an estimated 60,000 people with epilepsy live in Minnesota and eastern North Dakota. EFMN works to improve understanding of epilepsy through regional education programs and public awareness efforts. We work closely with individuals affected by epilepsy, supporting them through their personal journey with epilepsy, and connecting them to resources and to other people with similar experiences.

EFMN's Key Programs:

Seizure Smart Schools

Bring together students, teachers, school nurses, staff, and families to foster understanding of epilepsy in schools and to teach seizure first aid.

Shining Stars

All children are special, but children with epilepsy are Shining Stars! This program connects youth from across MN and ND with other families living with epilepsy and encourages them to “reach for the stars” despite any challenges created by epilepsy

Summer Camps

New this year, EFMN is excited to offer Day Camp and Family Camp options in addition to Camp Oz.

Connect Groups

Connect Groups are a way for people with seizures and their loved ones to meet other people who have a similar connection to epilepsy.

Regional Programming

Our Regional Coordinators are stationed throughout the region to offer programming and support in local communities

I&R Services

EFMN's Information and Referral Service links people affected by epilepsy to resources and educational materials.
